Minister for Environment responds to Double It For Nature
Over 1000 Queenslanders have supported the call on the Queensland Government to Double It For Nature since the campaign’s launch in early May. You can add your voice on the petition page here.
Double It For Nature is calling on the Queensland Government to invest in doubling Queensland’s national parks, protected areas on private land and jobs for Queenslanders to manage these areas, for the health and resilience of people and nature in Queensland.
It’s good to see Environment Minister Meaghan Scanlon has responded by reinforcing the Queensland Government’s pride in and commitment to protecting Queensland’s wildlife for future generations.
But this is far from enough.
If the Queensland Government is serious about protecting and managing Queensland’s natural and cultural heritage, we need to see…
- $55 million per year to support sustainable expansion of Queensland’s national parks over the next 10 years
- $24 million per year to support improved management of protected areas on private land
- $100 million to geographically extend the scope of Reef Assist. This would deliver 1300 jobs caring for nature and get Queenslanders back to work.
Thanks so much for being a part of the Double It For Nature campaign - together, we really are having an impact.
